Today I going to talk about the Personal Public Service Number or PPS number. It’s a card that you use it for social welfare benefits, public services and information in Ireland. It’s unique and personal, and you need some requisites to obtain it:
The first one is: be resident of Ireland and have a proof (a household utility bill, an official letter/document, financial statement, property lease or tenancy agreement, verifiable* employer’s letter, confirmation of address by a third party such as a school principal/administrator, accommodation/property owner**or manager.
* It is not necessary that the employer owns/provides the address accommodation.
** Where an applicant is staying with friends/relatives an original household bill plus a note from the bill holder confirming residency at the bill address is acceptable. This note can be written on the bill itself.)
The second one: you need a reason for obtaining it.
If it is work, you need a letter of the employer.
If it is studies, you need a letter of the college.
or because some public services require a PPS number:
- Government Departments
- Public Appointments Service
- Commission for Public Service Appointments
- Local Authorities
- Educational Institutions and VECs
- Health Service Executive
- Hospitals and Related Services
One reason (what I used for) was the letter that the government of Ireland send you when you rent a flat. (PRTB)
Don’t lose it!
Look for the office (Intreo) of your county.
You need an appointment, so go here my welfare. You have to register and follow the steps.
If all is good you will have your PPS number at home in 5 to 10 working days.
I went 3 times but you know what it is said “Third time lucky”
